2024 Breakfast of Hope

We are filled with gratitude for the 500+ attendees who gathered to raise awareness and more than $330,000 for Mecklenburg County survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Your presence made a powerful statement about our community's collective strength and the urgent need for ongoing support.

The event served as a poignant reminder of the impacts of domestic violence, featuring inspiring speakers and heartfelt stories that ignited meaningful conversations. We kicked off with the impactful video "Beneath The Surface," illustrating how deeply domestic violence affects not just survivors but everyone around them.

Our speakers filled the room with optimism and purpose, highlighting the transformative ripple effects of addressing domestic and sexual violence. Each shared a unique perspective, demonstrating how we can unite to create meaningful change

  • Spencer Merriweather, Mecklenburg County District Attorney, passionately discussed how our justice system and community can protect survivors. He emphasized the importance of strategic efforts and collaboration in fostering a safer, more compassionate environment for all.
  • Sydney Giesey, MSW, LCSW-A, from Atrium Health's Domestic Violence Healthcare Project (DVHP), offered an inspiring look into the healing journey of survivors. She showcased how connecting individuals with critical resources helps them reclaim their lives and move forward, highlighting the resilience of survivors and the vital role of support services.
  • Dayanara, a courageous 14-year-old survivor, shared her incredible story of transformation. With remarkable strength, she recounted her personal challenges and how hope and support empowered her to rebuild her life. Dayanara's story is a testament to the human spirit's ability to rise, reminding us that by supporting survivors, we can create ripples of positive change throughout our community.
