Domestic Violence Shelter

Our Clyde & Ethel Dickson Domestic Violence Shelter serves Mecklenburg County residents in imminent danger ready to escape from a domestic violence situation. The shelter has 19 apartment-style suites for families and 10 units for single adults.

The shelter is located on a 5-acre site in Charlotte convenient to public transportation and other support services. The 40,000-square foot facility has state-of-the-art security and multi-purpose space for supportive services, including:

  • Counseling
  • Substance use services
  • Support groups for adults and children
  • Children's program
  • Individual advocacy
  • Life skills and career planning services
  • Cafeteria and age-appropriate gathering spaces for children, teens, and adults
  • Basic needs (three daily meals, clothing referrals, personal care items, and toiletries)

We are able to offer clients in imminent danger of physical violence secure and safe housing based on each family's individual needs and service plan. Want to support our shelter residents? Hosting a collection drive or donating items on our Needs List (pdf) is great way to uplift survivors during a chaotic, traumatic time.

NOTE: As part of our security protocol, all visitors are required to call and schedule an appointment in advance. Visitors will be credentialed at several security check points before entering the facility. No one will be granted entry without prior approval.
